Horseshoe Youth Camps and Summits

Constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps for the United States Forest Service, the State YMCA of West Virginia (now the Ohio-West Virginia Youth Leadership Association) opened Camp Horseshoe in 1940 and has operated it since. Today, just as it has since that opening, the Ohio-West Virginia Youth Leadership Association maintains Horseshoe's guiding principles of creating community with everything directed to helping youth and adults strengthen their homes, schools and communities by becoming . . .

  • more responsible for their own lives
  • better motivated, prepared and committed to lead and to serve
  • action oriented, and
  • more responsible citizens of the community

Consult the particular Resource information (listed to the left) for programs, registrations, medical forms, and other details.

Adventure Camp

Ages: 7 - 12 year olds
Tuition: $300:
if paid by May 1st and $350 after that.

Horseshoe's Adventure Camp for 7 - 12 year olds is fun and much more! It's a good time with a purpose! Horseshoe is often a child's first major step toward becoming an individual and developing social skills with their own peer group. There is no better way for children to learn about themselves and others, expand their horizons, learn to share and get along with others, develop a positive self-image, and have fun! We believe in camping, and hope each child will have the chance to experience this vital part of growing up.

Youth Opportunity Camps

Ages: 7 - 12 year olds
No fee to eligible low income West Virginia boys and girls.

Horseshoe's Youth Opportunity Camps help low income boys and girls choose positive activities, attitudes and goals. YOC helps children improve social skills and confidence, build self-control, learn to better relate to others and find hope for a better future. YOC promotes healthy lifestyles by teaching good personal hygiene, physical and mental activity, good nutrition and school success. Children thrive in Horseshoe's guided atmosphere of purpose, positive role models, caring expectation, learning and constructive character building activities. The residential experience of family and community is Horseshoe's distinctive difference in the lives of children.

Have a requirement for a specific program for your group or organization? Call our office to discuss your needs. Our experienced staff will be happy to discuss what we have to offer and how we might custom design a program to meet your specific objectives.

Looking for a Place for your Band Camp?

Horseshoe is normally available starting the end of July for band camps. Bands love the home cooking at Horseshoe, find Horseshoe beautiful, free of distractions and just far enough away to avoid unexpected visits by non-band students. Horseshoe is also accredited by the American Camping Association and licensed by the WV Department of Health and Human Services.

We have a very large, flat, grassy field bigger than a football field and another adjacent field for practice. Our indoor practice room easily accommodates 100 and has served bands of more than 150. Additional small meeting spaces are available for band sectional practices.

For housing we have 8 Cabins - each have two sleeping rooms (each sleep 12) with bunks and a small "counselor" quarters with 2 bunks (sleeps 4). Restrooms/showers are in nearby "bath houses" with one for males and one for females.

Call - 304-478-2481 for details and pricing.
